The scanner can either be a flatbed type that allows you to scan anything, from books to bottoms, or sheet-fed models where you can feed in only fairly thin materials such as single sheets of paper. It is a bit of a boat anchor but I have had it for all of this time and I have not run out of toner yet. it will print sheets up to 11x17 and has two paper trays. The stuff is really amazing and I think it would remove your stains.Also, ink cartridges usually last for 4-5 refills, but there are those that can only be refilled one time before they are worn out. With a clean, lint-free cloth (eyeglass wipes or coffee filters work well), wipe the copper-colored contact on the cartridge.
